Today my daughter Salem received her favorite thing in the mail – a letter from Eva, her sponsored child through Compassion International. Eva lives in Colombia near the ocean and shares a birthday within weeks of Salem. When Salem turned 5, we intentionally chose a little girl her same age to sponsor.
While at this point, I make sure the financial commitment each month is covered, Salem has also raised money on her own for special birthday gifts and Christmas gifts for Eva’s family.
The Compassion Experience
A few weeks ago, she and I also took advantage of a local church hosting The Compassion Experience. In just 20 minutes, we stepped into the true story of Yannely, a child growing up in the Dominican Republic, and walked with her through her journey from poverty to a life transformed through Compassion and the local church.
It was such a great tangible way to teach her how other children live in other parts of the world and how our sponsorship through Compassion International makes a difference in Eva’s life on a daily basis.
Free Christian Homeschool Lesson Plans: Child Sponsorship
While we don’t homeschool, my sister homeschools her oldest son and I’m always on the lookout for great free resources for her. So I was thrilled when an email popped up in my inbox about these free Christian homeschool lesson plans centered around child sponsorship.
In this case, this curriculum is great for any family who is purposeful about teaching their children how to be the light of Jesus in the world, homeschoolers or not!
Each lesson highlights a specific country, has a specific spiritual emphasis, and includes a set of scripture references to go along with the materials.
Topics covered in the free homeschool lessons include:
- Helping Others in Need
- Honoring God
The creative activities help lead to spiritual growth as your children learn about countries where Compassion helps children in poverty.
