Today my daughter Salem received her favorite thing in the mail – a letter from Eva, her sponsored child through Compassion International. Eva lives in Colombia near the ocean and shares a birthday within weeks of Salem. When Salem turned 5, we intentionally chose a little girl her same age to sponsor.
While at this point, I make sure the financial commitment each month is covered, Salem has also raised money on her own for special birthday gifts and Christmas gifts for Eva’s family.
The Compassion Experience
A few weeks ago, she and I also took advantage of a local church hosting The Compassion Experience. In just 20 minutes, we stepped into the true story of Yannely, a child growing up in the Dominican Republic, and walked with her through her journey from poverty to a life transformed through Compassion and the local church.
It was such a great tangible way to teach her how other children live in other parts of the world and how our sponsorship through Compassion International makes a difference in Eva’s life on a daily basis.
